Often Hypnotherapy is believed to be a state where the client under hypnosis is unaware of their surroundings and under total control of the hypnotherapist. You may recall seeing movies where a clock ticks back and fourth making the client sleepier and sleepier as the hypnotherapist counts backwards from 10, 9, 8, 7...... and before you know it, the client is following every command of the hypnotherapist. THIS IS NOT THE CASE! The legal definition of hypnosis is "All hypnosis is self hypnosis", meaning the client is in complete control of their actions. In fact the client is more receptive and more alert with a heightened sense of self and the surroundings. Hypnosis requires voluntary participation on the part of the client and there is nothing that a hypnotist can say or do that could compromise a client’s morals or values. Hypnosis is simply a process that produces a very calm state of relaxation and increased awareness and concentration, where the Unconscious Mind is open and receptive to heightened suggestibility. In a Hypnosis session, the skilled practitioner will offer suggestions to your Unconscious Mind that are most in keeping with the changes you want to create in your life as the Unconscious Mind is the doorway to all success in Hypnosis.
